We are moving all Atari Lynx related content over to Atari Lynx Vault and all our shop content over to K-Retro Gaming. Please update your bookmarks!

As a result of this change, the following will no longer be available: Online Lynx Emulator, Collection Tracker, Game Ratings, News. If you are interested in contributing content to Atari Lynx Vault, we are seeking editors and maintainers.

Why is this happening? First - the Atari Gamer branding is changing to K-Retro Gaming to allow us to expand to providing games, replacement parts, and mod services to other game consoles. And second - The content management system running Atari Gamer is out of date and Google AppEngine (where the website runs) will no longer allow it to run after the 30th January 2024, so in order to preserve all content we switched to a new and modern content management system and chose a website domain that better suits the subject matter. Since we are operating this website in our spare time, on top of full time family and job committments, some features had to be dropped.

After more than 20 years on hiatus, Centipede is finally making its way to the Lynx!

This amazing game was started by Shadowsoft (who also ported Joust and Robotron to the Lynx) way back in 1993, but was never completed. Songbird recently acquired the rights and set about to adding new features and fixes to the game ROM. The result? Well, see for yourself with this Centipede preview video:

There have been a number of updates from Songbird Productions as of late, so here's a consolidated update of three new games that are set to be released in 2021 for Atari Lynx. Here are the updates from Songbird Productions...

Microvaders for #AtariLynx alpha #1. Coding this one right now. New build which features audio (music & f/x) for the first time. Enjoy!
Microvaders will definitely be a cart release once I add enough features to make it a really solid game. Working on power-ups and wave progression right now.

Coming early 2021 from Songbird: new run of #AlpineGames for #AtariLynx! This amazing game includes rendered graphics, >16 colors, and 4-channel MOD player!

First look at Sky Raider, coming for the Lynx in 2021. I created all the music and some graphics.

It's always great seeing developers make demo versions of their commercially released games. Fadest has released a demo of A Bug's Lynx so you can try it out before buying the full version in physical form. You can play the ROM on line here too.

A Bug's Trip REDUX is an extended version of A Bug's Lynx, edited by Songbird in the Redux collection: A Bug’s Trip Redux – Songbird Productions

It features the same levels, with improved gameplay, new songs. If you already know A Bug's Lynx and want to give a try to new gameplay before buying at Songbird, this demo release is for you. It features levels nΒ° 2, 12, 22, 32 & 42 from the game, and let you test the new control scheme.

In A Bug’s Trip Redux, you play a young butterfly during its first year of life, exploring 40 gardens through the 4 seasons.

Many traps await you, including other bugs lurking in the garden trying to catch you.

Be wise and use all the gardens features and traps to your benefit. In order to go to the next garden, you must collect all the scattered pills. Collect flowers to earn more points, and enjoy life – a butterfly’s life is so short…

The game cartridge saves your progress. Selection of the starting season is available once you have unlocked the corresponding season while playing.

Captain Harlynx has been in development for a while and all the videos so far concentrated on showing off levels in an emulator. This new video is showing the game being played on a real Lynx and it looks great! Check out those boss battles and the later level that has a space battle going on in the background! Really amazing!

Benn Venn just keeps improving his LCD mod kit for Atari Lynx all the time! Here's the latest update...

We're working on the Rev6 kit. We've found a way to use the exisitng brightness wheel to control our kit's brightness via the ribbon which means a true no soldering, drop in kit with full brightness control too! Scanline enable/disable will need the wire soldered but its still one step closer to perfection.

We're waiting on proto PCB's and ribbons to arrive to verify the design then pre-orders will open on this Rev6 batch. We think brightness control without soldering is definitely worth persuing, and worth the wait. We'll also keep the soldered option for brightness control on the PCB for those Lynx consoles with a faulty contrast wheel.

The pre-order page is here.

Bug Hunt was originally created for PC by John Bell (Lazy Brain Games) and now OCEO, a talented team of retro game developers and artists are bringing it to Atari Lynx. The game looks very fun...with it's simple concept of eating bugs while avoiding bees, it's sure to be a great arcade game addition to the Lynx Game Library.

Here's a video of it in action...

8-bit Unity has come a long way from initial conception and more and more feature are being added to it. The next feature will be scrollable tile maps, which is very exciting! Here's what Anthony had to say about it...

Thanks to a "quiet week", I was able to make rapid progress on the next version of 8bit-Unity (0.4).

The major new feature is Scrollable Tilemaps. I have implemented a super convenient asset pipeline: design your tile-set and maps in the excellent CharPad just ONCE, then 8bit-Unity takes care of converting the tiles to each platform for you!!

I am including screenies of a Tech-Demo that will be included in the next release, running on all supported platform. It is a kind of Diablo inspired dungeon crawler... I will post a video of actual game footage soon, so stay stuned my friends!!!

In other news, the 8bit-Hub. has a new firmware update, which fixes some timeout issues. The current firmware version is 0.3 and the hub will offer to auto-update next time you power it on.

Retroguru has made a cryptic announcement on social media recently...

*** TOP SECRET *** Atari Lynx *** Star Blader *** TBA *** Core Team: Gisberto Rondinella, Shahzad Sahaib, Simon Butler, MichaΕ‚ Szpilowski

The screenshot suggest that it will be a sort of a sword fighting type of game and will be released on Atari Lynx. The development team includes some known names from the Lynx homebrew scene so we're looking forward to getting more information on this game!
